The Beef

Traceability

Traceability in agriculture is crucial for ensuring the integrity and safety of food products from farm to table. At Watson Cattle Co., we pride ourselves on a fully traceable supply chain, allowing us to monitor every step of our beef's journey. This meticulous record-keeping ensures that each cut of meat can be traced back to its source, providing our customers with peace of mind about the quality and safety of the beef they consume. Traceability not only reinforces our commitment to transparency but also enables us to maintain high standards of animal welfare and environmental stewardship. By knowing the origins of our beef, customers can trust in the ethical practices behind their purchases, reflecting a commitment to quality that is both verifiable and unmatched.

BLACK ANGUS BREED

We raise Black Angus cattle. Known for their robust health and adaptability, Black Angus is one of the most sought-after beef breeds due to their consistently high-quality meat with excellent marbling and rich flavor. They flourish on the open pastures of Iowa, benefiting from natural grazing that enhances the nutritional quality and taste of their beef. At Watson Cattle Co., we adhere to the standards set by the American Angus Association to ensure each animal meets the breed's distinguished criteria. We maintain thorough records of genealogy and pedigree for all our cattle, including our breeding bulls, to ensure the integrity and superior quality of our Black Angus lineage.

Sustainable Farming

At Watson Cattle Co., sustainable farming is fundamental to our philosophy and operations. We are committed to practices that not only yield high-quality beef but also protect the environment and enhance soil health. Our holistic approach includes rotational grazing, which naturally manages the land and improves pasture regrowth, and utilizing natural manure as fertilizer to reduce chemical inputs. We also prioritize water conservation and biodiversity, implementing measures to preserve local wildlife habitats. These efforts help maintain the ecological balance of our farmland, ensuring it remains productive and vibrant for future generations. Our sustainable methods reflect our dedication to ethical stewardship and our promise to produce environmentally responsible and superior Black Angus beef.

Quality Assurance

At Watson Cattle Co., quality assurance is at the heart of everything we do. We adhere to the highest standards to ensure that every piece of beef we produce is not only safe but of exceptional quality. Our meticulous attention to detail spans the entire process—from the careful selection of feed to rigorous health monitoring and gentle handling of our cattle. We conduct regular inspections and follow strict protocols to maintain the integrity and cleanliness of our facilities. Our commitment extends to working closely with certified veterinarians and food safety experts to continually assess and improve our practices. This unwavering dedication guarantees that our customers receive only the finest, most reliable Black Angus beef on the market.

The Watson Family

The Watson family has been living the same fertile Iowa land for five generations, each adding to a rich tapestry of tradition and expertise in raising premium Black Angus cattle.

Growing up on the farm, the Watsons were instilled with values that are as enduring as the land itself: hard work, integrity, and respect for nature. These principles have not only shaped their approach to farming but have also fostered a deep sense of responsibility to both the community and the environment.

For the Watsons, farming is more than a livelihood—it's a way of life that honors the past and nurtures the future, ensuring that each generation not only inherits the land but also the ethos of stewardship that comes with it.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MEAT - FAQS

Are your cattle grain or grass finished?

Our cattle graze on native range and irrigated pastures throughout the year. We manage our pastures carefully to ensure a natural grazing pattern. As they approach maturity, our cattle are also finished with a mix of grains to enhance the marbling and flavor of the beef. However, it's important to note that our cattle never receive concentrated feeds. We also uphold our commitment to natural raising practices by ensuring our cattle are free from hormones and antibiotics.

How do you ship your beef?
